The Laurentina Necropolis
[img 1]
Laurentina Necropolis was excavated in 1804; in 1865 the so-called Tombs of Claudii (tombs 32, 33 and 34), were descovered: these ones were four painted tombs, whose name comes from an iscription commemorating the liberti (freedmen) of the Emperor Claudius. The paintings were removed from the tombs and nowdays they are exhibited in Vatican Museums.
